To prospective members: All applicants are required to read and agree to abide by the Club’s Constitution & Bylaws and Code of Ethics, as well as the AKC Code of Sportsmanship.

The application process takes up to three (3) months from the time the application is received until the applicant is notified of the disposition of their application into membership.

  • The Membership Chair receives the application, determines that it is in order, and then submits via the Corresponding Secretary to the Board for review.
  • The names of the pending applicants are then published in the Shiba E-News Bulletin for a 30-day review period by the membership. The board shall then consider any information submitted by members and may decide to postpone the voting on the application pending further investigation, or may vote upon the application at the next meeting, which is more than 30 days after publication. Applicants may be elected by secret ballot at an in-person meeting of the board of directors or by secret vote of the directors by written ballot.
  • Affirmative votes of 2/3 of the directors present at a meeting of the board, or of 2/3 of the entire board voting by mail shall be required to elect an applicant.
  • An application which has received a negative vote by the board may be presented by one of the applicant’s endorsers at the next Annual Meeting of the club and the individual members may elect such applicant by secret ballot and a favorable vote of 75% of the individual members present. Applicants for membership who have been rejected by the club may not re-apply within 12 months after such rejection. All fees shall be returned in the event of rejection. [NSCA 2015 C&BL Article I, Section 3]

In completing your application it is important that you furnish specific information regarding your experience, activities and involvement with the Shiba Inu or other dog breeds so that the Board of Directors can reach an appropriate decision under the standards of the Club regarding your admission as a member. Note: If either endorsement date is over six months old, the application will be returned for resubmission with current endorsements/dates.
