In September, 2003, the National Shiba Club of America joined over 100 other AKC Parent Clubs by signing into the Purina Parent Club Participation Program (PPCP). Through a diversity of programs, sponsorships and events, Purina supports the activities and interests of breeders, enthusiasts and dog owners. Funding for canine health studies, award programs for competitions and sponsorship of show and sporting events are just some of the ways Purina extends support. The NSCA’s participation in the PPCP Program is NOT an official endorsement of Purina or any of their products. This program is strictly VOLUNTARY on the part of the breeder/exhibitor/owner. Also, NSCA membership is not required to participate.
Funding Distribution
The PPCP Program has raised in excess of $3.5 million for canine health research, education and rescue efforts since 2002. In addition to helping fund canine health research projects, the funding returned to the individual clubs has been used to help support educational outreach programs such as scholarships, library support, youth programs and conservation education programs. It has also been used to support judges’ education seminars, to produce breed specific educational materials and to produce responsible dog ownership materials. Rescue programs have benefited with funds being used for the direct care of dogs in need, the development of fund raising tools and the support of adoption events.
The NSCA uses 75% of each year’s PPCP earnings to support member education programs offered at the National Specialty.
